Pomonal Primary School is part of the Ararat Cluster of Small Schools. Students participate in sporting and educational activities and camps with Moyston, Maroona, Buangor.
The town of Pomonal was named after the Roman Goddess Pomona, goddess of orchards and fruit trees. With the establishment of orchards in the area the school began in 1887. The original school building still remains as an administration room.
The school is a vital part of the friendly village community of Pomonal. In 2019 there are eight staff, consisting of: one principal who currently teaches Year 3-7 students, a full time Prep-Year 3 teacher, a full time Integration Aide who also teaches Portugese fortnightly, EFT 0.4 Business manager, EFT 0.2 Specialist Art teacher, Weekly Voluntary English and Maths Intervention teacher, 0.2 Specialist Library Teacher, 0.1 Specialist IT support and Cleaner
The Pomonal/Halls Gap playgroup is based at Pomonal School and hold regular weekly playtimes for pre-school children.
